A Journey Back to the Canvas
My name is Greg Golding, and my journey as an artist began when I was just 10 years old.
My grandmother introduced me to oil painting, teaching me not only how to use a brush but how to see the beauty in the world around me. She gave me brushes of my own, never knowing just how much they would come to mean to me.
Life eventually took me in other directions, and for nearly 25 years, I stepped away from painting. But the love of art never truly disappeared.
During those years, I served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman alongside the Marines. My military service became an important chapter of my life, shaping my understanding of strength, resilience, sacrifice, and the importance of moments we sometimes take for granted.
Like so many people, I’ve experienced challenges, triumphs, and unexpected turns along the way. Those experiences have shaped not only who I am, but how I see the world.
When I finally picked up my paintbrushes again, something remarkable happened. I rediscovered a part of myself that had been waiting patiently all those years.
Today, I still paint with some of my grandmother’s brushes. They’re more than tools. They’re a connection to where my journey began and a reminder of the person who first believed in my creativity.
Why I Paint
For me, painting isn’t simply about recreating what something looks like. It’s about capturing what it feels like.
I’m inspired by the quiet solitude of the Nevada desert, the strength and beauty of wildlife, meaningful places, and memories that deserve to be preserved.
Whether I’m painting a landscape, a beloved animal, or a deeply personal commission, I approach every canvas with the belief that even the simplest moments can hold extraordinary meaning.
Art has become a way for me to slow down, reflect, and find beauty in places where others might not think to look.
For me, painting is more than creating art. It’s about creating something that matters.
